2014: The Year of Magic & Wisdom

Welcome to the Chinese New Year of the Horse Elder, Wood. It is a year of power to be applied with wisdom, strength to be properly channeled, and leadership to be humble. We enter February with Venus (Goddess of love, beauty, finances, and creativity) moving slowly forward and gaining speed as February progresses.  What did the Goddess learn through her retrograde from Dec. 21, 2013 – Jan 31, 2014?  Hopefully, she learned what is real for her, where her love has endurance and strength. The relationships that help build her world and those that don’t support it. Many long term relationships came to a crashing hault before she entered the retrograde as often happens when relationships need an overhaul, and then others occurred during the retrograde. For some an ending, and for others a new growth pattern.

In the meantime, enter the planet Mercury, which can be very mercurial, and slippery when in water signs.  It just left Aquarius to move into Pisces where it will retrograde from the early degrees of Pisces through almost half of Aquarius (it begins February 6 and ends February 28, 2014).  It directly effects those born from February 6 through February 21/22.  So if you are having a birthday during these dates, then the energies of Mercury will more deeply touch & awaken you to a greater personal year of growth and change.

The planet Mercury in our Solar System has the tightest orbit to the Sun, and thus acts as its messenger bringing us information & learning. IT effects how we communicate at every single level, including and being driven by our thought patterns (you know that old adage “what you think, you create”).  When Mercury is in its retrograde cycle it spends more time in that sign, giving us time to digest and work with the messages its bringing in. The full story or message cannot be known until Mercury moves forward again and comes back to the place where it began its retrograde cycle, which is in early Pisces and takes us thru March 20. The energy of Pisces can be very intuitive and emotional, maybe we thought we intuitively knew the answer, and maybe we are right, but maybe not. Talking about it and listening to the other person’s/people’s point of view is important here, especially as Aquarius rules our ‘network of friends’.

Assuming our intuition is dead on is not a conclusion one should make at this time.  It is important to follow through on gathering the information and doing the ‘outer listening’ as well as doing the ‘internal listening’.  Therefore, logic & intuition both need to be applied.
Mercury retrogrades also serve to throw us off our routines, back-pedalling, redoing, repairing, etc, and fixing our communication tools and transportation vehicles take center stage.  Our modern World operates on communication and transportation. These are not things we should take for granted, but instead seek to improve, perfect, and expand upon.

While Mercury is in Pisces during this first part of the cycle (January 31 – through the early evening of February 12, 2014) one’s access and communication to the ‘other realms’ or realities, especially the higher dimensional ones is more accessible and fluid.  Set your intentions, talk about your dreas and have these conversations with ‘Spirit’.  On a personal level, I find that when Mercury is in both Aquarius and Pisces I have greater access to my dreamworld, and my sleeptime seems as active as my waking time!  Magic is afoot during this time, as it is in late October/November and again following the Summer Solstice. Enjoy the journey, but most of all apply what you are learning with love, wisdom, and compassion.

The Princess Becomes the Queen

The next astrological event will be held at Lydia’s place in San Diego.  This will be the last event of the year 2013!  The next two New Moons are:  December 2, 2013 at 4:22 pm PST in the last of the fire signs:  Sagittarius.  It’s about thinking big and in expansive ways!  It will be followed by a Full Moon across the signs of Gemini/Sagittarius on December 17, 2013 at 1:28 am PST.  The planet Uranus comes out of its retrograde (which it has been in since July 17, 2013), and Venus goes retrograde in Capricorn on December 21, the Winter Solstice!  Put your money where your mouth is with this set of planetary events!  December is full of activities and does not go quietly into the New Year!  AND, we begin this New Year’s Day with the first New Moon of 2014 in the  ‘let’s get real and get down to business’ sign of Capricorn beginning at 3:14 am PST!!!

I will focus my lecture on the Sagittarius energy and what that does for us; Uranus out of retrograde; the upcoming Venus retrograde in Capricorn; and Mars’ entrance into Libra where it will retrograde in March 2014.  A vast and powerful play in the Cardinal signs of Aries, Libra, Capricorn, and Cancer is afoot, and it involves the planets Pluto, Uranus, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Mercury, and the Sun, with some assistance from Saturn, Neptume,  and Chiron.  Let’s now look at the Play.  Chess anyone!!

The planet Neptune is the first contact point:  the dream, the greater vision, it’s what unifies us.  It’s also our imagination and we want to give it flight!  Venus (Goddess of  love, beauty, creativity, money, and women) began her sojourn in the earth sign of Capricorn on November 5, 2013, where she will be until March 5, 2014!  Thus the realm of ‘our relationships’ (and that can be our relationship to money & power too!), our connectedness with other human beings  through the power of ‘love’ sets the stage here.  Venus opened up our dreams with her contact to Neptune on November 7, 2013 and the energy was with us through the 12th (ultimately though, since it started the journey, it will be with us the entire cycle).
A big awakening  is occurring here from November 13 through pretty much the end of November.  Realities could be shifted overnight, dreams lost, to be re-created anew here or somewhere else in another dimensional/spiritual reality.  Venus is losing her some of her innocence, yet gaining wisdom and discernment.  Realizing that sometimes one’s happiness requires hard decisions.
On this journey, Venus can be likened to a well known myth that is most well known in the Greco-Roman mythologies:  The abduction of Persephone by the Pluto.  Persephone lives with her mother Demeter (Goddess of the Earth), whom she is quite attached to her and has a happy, serene, carefree life in the eternal summertime of Earth. Until one day as she is picking flowers not aware of any danger, she is kidnapped by Pluto, who instantly fell in love with her when he caught a glimpse of her in the fields of flowers.  Pluto is God of the Underworld and that is where he takes her and intends on keeping her there with him.  Depending on which culture tells the myth, Demeter spends months or years looking for Persephone in which time the crops begin to wither and there are few to no new births, as she gives very little attention to tending to the wellbeing of the Earth.
There is loss here and a ‘sudden’ big change of realities.  In the end though, with the involvement of the Zeus & Mercury (who rules communication & transportation), a pact is made where Persephone spends three months in the Underworld with Pluto and nine months above ground with Demeter.  Again, depending on which culture tells the myth, the number of months Persephone spends in Hades (the Underworld) varies from three to six.  This is one version of where we get our seasons mythology from, and the seasons each begin with Aries (Spring), Cancer (Summer), Libra (Fall), and Capricorn (Winter). This is a very short version of the story, yet it is about deep transformational growth, in our personal growth into wisdom and responsibility and how we grow through our relationships.  Balance being a key ingredient to our relationships!  Persephone felt torn between two worlds and she could not leave her mother nor Pluto, whom she felt compassion for and she grew to love.  In the time apart from her mother, Persephone grew into a full adult, and in doing so she chose to be Pluto’s Queen, and be a keeper of the secrets of the Underworld.  Thus the themes of balance, growth, knowledge, and responsibility are important on this journey, and making choices thoughtfully with everyone’s highest good involved including our own.  This is after all what the true giving & receiving of love is.  Persephone starts off as the Princess, and through her time in the Underworld with Pluto (God of death & rebirth), having to make the very important decision about her happiness and the happiness of those she loves, she becomes the Queen.
TO BE CONTINUED….. when Mars moves into Libra!

Evolving Realities

It occurs in the penetrating, transformative sign of Scorpio.  It is one of the three water signs (Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio), though its motivations and emotions can at times be hidden.  There is very strong self-protection here, but if the trust is earned, the loyalty will always be there.  I often think of the Scorpio energy as the deep rivers/streams that run beneath the earth’s surface, and thus it is that journey to the ‘Center of the Earth’ or to the center of one’s ‘Being’.  There can be very dark places here that one needs to transform, bringing darkness into light or the unknown or unresolved into meaning and understanding.  Is it the hero’s journey or the fool’s?  Both signs of Aries and Scorpio are ruled by the planet Mars and thus require decisive action and personal integration.  Aries can be more impulsive but also pure in its motives in being the hero, whereas Scorpio can have a hidden agenda or a well thought through pathway in taking on the ‘hero’s role’, and oftentimes it is a search for redemption.  That idea that every ‘soul’ on Earth has some measure of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) and is here on the planet to essentially heal and thus become more physically and spiritually free and lighter!

This is an amazing Eclipse as it hits the points of the Star of David (referred to as a Grand Sextile in the astrology world) which reached fullness back in July 2013!  This six pointed star of energy opened up a portal, a shifting of realities from an old framework into a new one, where we find ourselves simultaneously living the old life, experiencing the old emotional patterns, while at the same time the new us with our new realities is being born.  That is why we have moments of exhilaration and moments of sadness.  The key here is to not supress anything, instead to welcome the emotions, knowing that as they come up and you face them, that is when the clearing begins to occur.

As Rumi so aptly puts it: “The wound is where the light enters you.”

We are all in this transformative process right now and the energies around us took a deeper dive into this death & rebirth at the end of September when Mercury entered the sign of Scorpio (where it will retrograde).  This energy wave is building into the Lunar Eclipse across the signs of Libra/Aries all day Friday, October 18, 2013 holding an incredible vortex of energy open between the Lunar Eclipse and the Solar Eclipse on November 3, 2013.  Then add to the mix Mercury now in the shadow of its upcoming retrograde which begins on Monday, October 21, 2013 through November 10, 2013.

Mercury is all about our communication habits, and in Scorpio it asks us to take the time to think clearly through things until we get to the right answer for us. That means we may not be able to respond right away, and that is okay, for deep thinking and processing is what is required now.  A planet appearing from the Earth vantage point to be going retrograde or backwards in the heavens gives us an inward glance and in this case, into our world of thought (ruled by Mercury), there is an internalization of communication that occurs.  It is good to apply re before our words, i.e. reapply, restore, repair, reanalyze, reintroduce, rewrite, etc.

We are swimming in very deep waters now, where the unconscious easily merges with the conscious.  Where deeper truths can emerge, and hopefully when Mercury goes direct on November 10, we can begin to integrate these deeper truths into the ‘new reality’ that is emerging, one step at a time!! We will be aided and challenged here by the Uranus/Pluto square occurring on November 1,2013.  Very powerful, soul level realities and relationships are revealing themselves in October & November, and you will have time to pause, reconsider, and further acknowledge and integrate them into your ‘new realities’ through the many retrogrades occurring between now and July 2014.

Evolving Relationships

The New Moon in the highly artistic, social, charming, and balance-seeking sign of Libra!  The actual day of the NM is on Friday, October 4th at 5:34 pm.  This is a Cardinal New Moon that fully activates the Grand Cross energies with Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, and Jupiter in Cancer.  Yes, it is very powerful when the Sun and the Moon together charge this astrological geometrical energy pattern as they are doing with this New Moon.  The Lunar Eclipse of the Sun & Moon which follows it on October 18 in the signs of Aries and Libra are carrying the energy through and creating a further opening of the Venus & Mars retrograde cycles that are following it when Venus goes into its prospective retrograde sign of Capricorn in November 2013, and Mars moves into it retrograde sign of Libra in December 2013.  Just a reminder:  Venus and Mars are about RELATIONSHIP!!
The Grand Cross play has already begun, it did so when Venus, as the first planet to enter Libra, did so from August 16 – September 10.  We then got a good glimpse of what was going on in the relationship corner of our lives.  Keep in mind, that relationship encompasses ALL of the relationships in our lives that we put time & energy into, partnership, family, work, friends, co-workers, employers.  The stage has been set with Venus, then Mercury entered Libra on September 9 and will be there through the wee hours of the morning on September 29.  The Sun will be in Libra from September 22 – October 22 to really spice things up!  Mercury has to do with our communication skills in our relationships.  Breakdowns happen because something isn’t functioning properly, there’s a lack of equality or understanding (Libra), and the Sun can takes things personally, triggering an ego response.  Ultimately though, Libra truly values a harmonious, peaceful, and interactive environment, thus will do what it takes to bring things back into balance or change the environment.  Yes, we are each feeling this and probably at a deep.
The last planet to enter Libra will be Mars on December 7, 2013  (the sign it will retrograde in) to July 26, 2014.  Obviously we have a choice to be active participants in the unfoldment of our lives or to be passive ones, though taking the passive route this time will probably not work well, if it works at all!  Think of Libra as the International Peace Keeping force, The United Nations of Humanity, a  forum that needs to involve everyone and requires equanimity.  Too much control (which can be Capricornian), too reactionary to cooperate (an Aries trait), or licking one’s emotional wounds & concerned only with one’s tribe (Cancer) can get in the way of the process of equal negotiation and diplomacy.  Living in Harmony & peace are not just words, they are a way of being where respect, honoring, and love is given to all beings!  Unfortunately, we’ve got to burn through our ego’s and past ‘trespasses’ to get there.  On this journey, I would like to remember what a well known author Marianne Williamson once said, ” How would love show up here”.
Finally, Mercury is retrograde in the deep transformative water sign of Scorpio from October 21 – November 10, 2013!
Hold onto your seats, as this Mercury cycle involves most of the planets!!  The very stratosphere of your beings and this planet is being re-configured.
I feel like I am on a mythological journey with Jason & the Argonauts!!

The Horn of Plenty

Well , we are right around the corner from September which in astrology is often considered the month of harvest.  Often displayed as a healthy young virgin with a shaft of wheat representing the earthy yet discerning and analytical sign of Virgo!

The actual day of the New Moon in Virgo will be on September 5, 2013 at 4:36 am PST.  This is a fabulous new moon activating the Grand Sextile pattern (Star of David – six pointed star in water & earth signs) which we have in full swing as of  July 22, 2013.  Set your intentions in concise and detailed languaging as the avenues for clear, practical, and thoughtful communication is now available!  It will be followed two weeks later by the Harvest Full Moon across the signs of Pisces/Virgo on September 19, 2013 at 4:13 am PST.  The Harvest Moon offers us well-earned rewards for work that is diligently done and in service to others.  It is a time to be festive and enjoy the harvest with our community!

One of the many virtues of Virgo is to give gratitude for all that one already has materially, in community with others and in spirit, and to further the gratitude for that which one has not yet received.  The Pisces component adds forgiveness (for self and others) & surrender to the process!  Now indeed the Horn of Plenty is full, for from gratitude, forgiveness, and knowing when to surrender, a beautiful and colorful garden can truly grow & blossom.

The next Astrological Event will be at my place in Pacific Beach on Sunday, September 1, 2013 beginning at 4pm PST.
